The 2nd Annual Warren’s Pride National Night Out | Print |  E-mail

The 2nd Annual Warren’s Pride National Night Out on August 2, 2008 was a huge success.  With over 43 participants in the parade through downtown Warren over to Perkins Park where close to 35 informational/display booths from various community service organizations were setup, visitors to the event were met with a warm welcome and a huge array of information and demonstrations.  Patrolman Brian Crites of the Warren Police Department, Captain Ray Knepper of the Weathersfield Fire Department, Scout Andrew Austin from Champion, and our many branches of United States Armed Services were honored in a ceremony held in the Amphitheatre after the parade.  Warren’s Pride Jazz Band entertained in the Amphitheatre following the Honors Ceremony.  Their music and professionalism surprised many spectators.  The group is made up of an area band director (Josh Cokrlic,) some of his current and past students, and many of his friends.  They should be playing in Vegas.  Their sound is truly big stage.

Mayor O’Brien proclaimed the first Saturday of August as Warren’s Pride National Night Out Day and presented the Chairs and Presidents of the North West Neighborhood Association, Inc., The South East Side Community Association, Inc., and The North End Environmental Development a framed Proclamation stating such.  The groups will share in the displaying of the Proclamation.

The Dunking Booth provided entertainment from 1-4 p.m. with Fifth Ward Councilman Vince Flask being the first to be dunked.  Water Department Director Bob Davis took his turn in the tank next with Mayor O’Brien and Safety Services Director Doug Franklin following.

There were so many organizations that came out for the day to offer assistance, knowledge, advice, and demonstrations to all that attended Warren’s Pride National Night Out.  The display booths were neatly setup with information readily available.  The weather was very cooperative too.  We had a beautiful, warm, sunny day although the dunkees in the dunking booth probably wouldn’t agree.  The water, I hear was pretty cold.

There was a children’s costume contest with all the children being awarded prizes of their choice.  All costumes had to be homemade and reflect a patriotic or crime prevention theme.

Our deepest appreciation and heartfelt thanks go out to all of the organizations, groups, and individuals who made this year’s event such a success.  We hope to see you all next year.  A very special thank you to Karen Radovic of SESCA, Inc. for all of her hard work and the time she dedicated to making sure that this event went according to plan.  Thank you to the Organizing Committee for your hard work and dedication.
